Marek Ranis: Like Shishmaref

Marek Ranis teaches sculpture as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  He has recently participated in the contemporary art exhibition, View From Up Here: The Arctic at the Center of the World. Ranis’ contribution, Like Shishmaref, is a 16-minute film that juxtaposes video of the eroded coasts of the Alaskan Inupiaq village of Shishmaref and the North Carolina Outer Banks. He describes his work as no longer the recognition of the inevitable, but the search for the response.
